Being new to the whole gardening business, I spend a lot of time thinking about what kind of plants I want in my garden. My wishlist consists of items such as an avocado tree, a custard apple tree and a blueberry bush. The problem is, these items take a really long time to grow (apparently a blueberry bush takes up to 6 years to produce a decent amount of fruit?!), are relatively tricky to grow and it's the wrong season to start planting any of these things.
While reading up on different things I want in my garden, I stumbled upon a really awesome site called Gardenate. To put it simply, Gardenate makes things easy for people like me by compiling a list of common kitchen plants to grow each month. So I can go on the site, select which climate zone I'm in and grab a list of fruits, vegies and herbs to grow right now. Very handy in helping you decide what to grow when. It really is a very useful site and if you're a newbie like me, definitely worthwhile checking out.
The reason I brought this up is because I recently received my July Gardenate planting reminders and... I'm EXCITED! There are so many goodies in the list and I cannot wait to start planning. It's also lifted my spirits - instead of thinking about what went wrong with past gardening projects (hello spinach), I'm thinking about the wonderful new things that I'll be growing over the next few weeks. Here's to winter gardening!
